As we close our three week theme on how we respond to the horrors of the world around us, we turn from despair and debate toward the brave work of building something real. Not perfect, not finished, but real.
This Sunday, we will introduce HERO Academy, a new pilot youth community rooted in four simple practices: Honor, Empathy, Respect, and Opportunity. Open to all youth, across labels and lines, HERO Academy is being built in partnership, across public and private schools, across congregations and synagogues connected through Kesher, and alongside progressive communities who want youth programming but cannot do it alone. The program will be led by Jessica Lam and funded entirely by Pridelines, with social and emotional learning modules developed by Dr. Daniel Sheridan of No Reservations and Lead Practitioner at Analytic Faith.
On Sunday, we will weave together the wisdom shared this month by Dr. Christine Hughes Pontier, Dr. Ryan Pontier, and 30 Days of Love, and we will borrow a living metaphor from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, asking what it looks like to rebuild community after rupture, to “flock with the people,” and to practice love as something we do, together.
Come as you are, bring your hope, your grief, and your willingness to begin again.
