Six stories. Five centuries. One comet-shaped birthmark passing from a lawyer on a slave ship to a composer, a reporter, a publisher, a clone, and a traveler at the end of the world. Cloud Atlas makes a claim most of us half believe and rarely say aloud: a life is not a sealed room. What we do reaches people we will never meet. Every cruelty and every kindness ripples into lives that are somehow also ours. Then the film goes one step further. In every century, someone is saved by one honest meeting. A person risks being seen without pretense, another risks seeing, and something opens between them that neither could have made alone. That opening is older than any of us and larger than all of us. The mystics had a word for it. So does the ocean. So do we, if we are brave enough to use it.
