On this day of remembrance, UU Miami gathers to honor the lives lost on September 11 and to practice the courageous work of Becoming, shaping a life and a city grounded in love of self and love of neighbor. Drawing from the new book Becoming: The Self, The Path, and The Truth, Rev. Dr. Marrero will explore how the stories we cultivate can move us from scarcity to sanctuary, “each of us is both the sculptor and the sculpture,” and the mind is a garden where compassion and courage can be planted and grown.
The service will include a chalice lighting from Becoming, a litany of remembrance and resolve, and a quiet practice of repose, “peace, be still,” as a form of public courage.
Families are warmly invited; our Time for All Ages uses seeds and soil to help children imagine the kind of Miami we can grow together. We will also share an interactive ritual, the Four Lights of Sanctuary, naming Grief, Gratitude, Solidarity, and Resolve.
Childcare for infants & toddlers is available during our Sunday Service.
Join us live in the sanctuary or Live Stream on our YouTube Channel.
After The Service
Please stay for a conversation with Rev. Dr. Marrero. Bring your reflections on the sermon, your questions about his theological journey and understanding, and your hopes for what UU Miami can become as a sanctuary for our city.
