You Are Invited: A Christmas Eve Journey Through Time and Spirit

By: Rev. Dr. Harold Marrero

This Christmas Eve, we warmly invite you and your friends and family to join us at UU Miami for a very special service that transcends time, story, and expectation. Our Christmas Eve service begins at 6:30 pm, and we hope you will be part of this shared moment of light and meaning.

Tonight, we will gather not just to remember a story once told, but to become that story ourselves. We will travel together on a journey older than language itself, a journey of longing and light, of waiting and wonder. Throughout Advent, we have reflected on what it means to welcome love, hope, joy, and peace into our lives and into our world. Tonight, we take that reflection deeper and begin to embody it, becoming the light upon a hill we have been exploring together.

In our shared storytelling, we remind ourselves who we are. We are not the shadows cast by fear or empire, not the old nor the false stories we often carry, but beings of light called to reflect love in the world. This Christmas Eve, we reclaim the ancient narrative of birth and becoming, and in doing so, we counter the stories that diminish us and the empires of our time that thrive on fear and division.

Our worship will feature beautiful music from gifted soloists and musicians whose voices and instruments will carry and deepen the story we tell together. The music will invite stillness, joy, and presence into this holy night and help shape a shared experience that lingers long after the final candle is extinguished.

This gathering is for seekers, believers, questioners, and all who long for connection and meaning. Bring those you love, children, siblings, neighbors, old friends, and new friends. Bring anyone who needs a place to pause this season and be welcomed just as they are.

As we celebrate tonight, we join a global rhythm. More than two billion people around the world, Christians and many others who observe Christmas as a cultural and spiritual celebration, will gather across more than 160 countries to mark this season of light, love, and renewal. In countless languages and traditions, people will sing, share stories, and reach for hope together.

This Christmas Eve, may our lights shine both inward and outward, illuminating the stories we tell about ourselves, the world we long to create, and the shared humanity that binds us all.

We cannot wait to celebrate with you.

Join us tonight at 6:30 pm, in community, in song, in story, and in the ever-unfolding journey toward light.
